Dress Code

Downtown Dance has a dress code particularly geared towards our children's classes.  The goal of the dress code is to allow dancers to focus on dance by wearing comfortable/appropriate clothing and thereby creating a safer environment with fewer distractions.

Hair: Hair should be up, away from the face and out of the eyes.  Those without hairbands can purchase one from the studio.

All Creative Dance & Contemporary I Classes

Dress: Leotard with simple attached or pull-on skirt, any color, OR dark leggings and a solid top, any color. Hair up. 

Optional Recommendation: Ballet slippers and tights.

*Dress code package deal: Dance dress, tights and slippers for $49. (Based on availability.)*

Contemporary II, III, IV and V Classes

Dress: Black leggings and a solid, non-baggy top, any color and any style. (e.g. tank, short-sleeve, or leotard.)  Downtown Dance logo shirts can be worn instead of a solid top. Hair up.

Optional Recommendation: Dance Paws.

For end of term mini-show students need black leggings.

Hip-Hop I, II, III, and IV Classes

Dress: Dance pants, any color. (e.g., dance cargo pants, sweatpants, leggings, or shorts) Solid color top, any color and style. Downtown Dance logo shirts can be worn instead of a solid top. Clean sneakers or athletic shoes, smooth sole is best. Hair up.

For end of term mini-show students need black pants.

Contemporary Dance and Lyrical (teen/adult)

Comfortable, non-restrictive dance wear. Not too baggy. Bare feet or dance "paws". Hair up.

Jazz Dance (teen/adult)

Comfortable, fitted dance wear. Jazz shoes or dance "paws" recommended. Hair up.

Hip-Hop (teen/adult)

Comfortable, non-restrictive clothes. Clean athletic shoes or dance sneakers.
